Revelation was not written for 'Rapturists' fleeing from the world, who tell the world 'goodbye' and want to go to heaven; it was meant for resistance fighters, struggling against the godless powers of this earth. Moltmann, Coming of God, 153.

Excellent point. But does he not overlook the historical context? Revelation was an urgent seismic alert, and these guys preach it as though it is a general polemic against earthquakes. All the tribes of the Land (ge) mourned as judgment came upon the whole oikumene. Rev 1-19 is history.
Nice to have you back.
Well, actually it was Matt Bales, but hey, I'll take the credit since I'm the one actually reading "The Coming of God".
I think you'd like the book Mike.
I really must get Balesy another coulour or something..
Sorry Matt.
I read the reviews on amazon. Looks ok. I'd be interested to read his insights on suffering.
The impression I get is he's heading towards postmillennialism - the gradual victory of the gospel in history - via idealism, which majors on application but fails in interpretation (historical context).
Let me know when you've finished it!
We'll see.
He gets accused of that quite a bit in earlier books, but he has a slightly more apocalyptic/ it really requires Jesus to show up bent in this one
My understanding is he does head in the post-millennial direction. However, he is appreciated for fresh insight despite over emphasizing his point.
Keep us posted Mike.
