Barth on the Synoptics

Barth makes a similar point about reading the synoptics in Church Dogmatics IV/1

"There and then, in the existence of the man Jesus of Nazareth, who was the Son of God, this event came to pass [the reconciliation of the world in the Judge who was judged in our place] in the kingly freedom of the God who is holy and righteous in His faithfulness and mercy....To be known and explained and proclaimed with this significance it cannot and must not be ignored or dissolved in favour of it's significance, so that it dissappears in it..."
CD IV/1 pp223
Barth goes on to talk about the importance of the gospels for continually making an accustomed Jesus unaccustomed to us again.

So I'll ask again, How long since you looked at Jesus with fresh eyes?
